1 hour massage for $2.85

We decided to try some of the 100 baht/hour massage vendors in the neighborhood the other day.  Since this works out to a bit less than $3 USD per hour, we weren't sure what to expect.

Well, we had a very pleasant experience - the massages were quality, and we left very relaxed.  And at these rates, we may just have to make a habit of it.

A helpful sign

Strictly!  That's very helpful - if that's not what you're looking for (we never are), then you know it's ok to go here.  Most signs aren't so specific.

We want to feel 'glowy', but not that 'glowy', you know?

Sale on - massage!

Massage on sale - get it while it's hot!

Weekdays only, but massage is needed those days, too.

We might just have to take advantage.

(currently, 35 baht ~1 USD)

Christmas day at Wat Pho

We spent our Christmas day walking around Bangkok, checking out the Chinatown area, taking a boat up the main river (Chao Phraya), and wandering around the Wat Pho temple complex, where there is a famous (and enormous) reclining Buddha statue.  Wat Pho is a very tranquil place, and just the thing after navigating the hot urban jungle.  We ended with a one-hour massage at the Wat Pho massage school - it was wonderful, and afterwards we both felt like jellyfish.

These pictures are from Wat Pho.

Chatuchak weekend market part 1

Yesterday we went to Chatuchak weekend market.  It is a market that is just open Saturday and Sunday, and it's huge - it's the biggest market in Asia with over 15,000 stalls.  They sell just about anything you can think of.  We'll post some pictures here in stages - today's pictures should need no translation to make sense, some of the others will need a bit more explanation.

In these pictures, you can see Angela (our relocation specialist who's helping us get familiar with Bangkok and Thailand) and a number of food and clothing vendors.  In one picture you can see satay all stacked up (the snacks and food at the market were predictably delicious).  And we'll start this posting with where we ended our day - with a (less than $5 USD) half hour foot massage, which was every bit as good as it sounds.
